Champagne Benoit Dehu
Champagne house in Champagne.
Champagne Benoît Déhu is the champagne of Benoît Déhu, a grower in Fossoy in the Vallée de la Marne. He makes his wines from a single plot, La Rue des Noyers.
- History: Benoît Déhu comes from the family behind Déhu Père et Fils, a house that sources say was founded in 1787; he represents the eighth generation of growers. After several formative years at Champagne Bollinger he returned to the family estate to make his own champagnes.
- Vineyards and terroir: La Rue des Noyers is a 1.7-hectare plot that he has farmed independently since 2011. It is farmed biodynamically, with around 0.40 hectares traditionally worked by horse. The name refers to the walnut trees that once bordered the plot.
- Approach and style: The wine is made entirely from Meunier and is fermented and aged in oak barrels, many of them made from trees from the nearby forest of Fossoy. The champagne is bottled unfined and unfiltered and released as a brut nature, without dosage.
- Cuvées: La Rue des Noyers, a blanc de noirs from Meunier.
