Villers-aux-Nœuds is a small village in the Marne department, south of Reims, on the northern edge of the Montagne de Reims, near the Premier Cru village of Villers-Allerand. The village has Premier Cru status.
The Montagne de Reims has the greatest concentration of Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages in Champagne. On the northern slopes around Villers-aux-Nœuds, the vineyards lie on chalk with a covering layer of clay and limestone, and pinot noir, meunier and chardonnay are grown. Champagnes from this part of the Montagne are generally fresh and structured, with the cooler tone of the northern flank.
Champagnes made from grapes from Villers-aux-Nœuds may bear the Premier Cru designation on the label.
