Xavier Leconte is a family house in Troissy, in the hamlet of Bouquigny in the Vallée de la Marne, where a passion for wine has passed from father to son for six generations. The house traces its origins to 1870, when Onésime Leconte brought wine-growing into the family. In 1980 Xavier Leconte, the fifth generation, began his career as a grower: he had the soils analysed, enlarged the vineyard, planted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir alongside the existing Meunier and built his own press and cuverie. Today he works with his son Alexis.
Vineyards The vineyard consists of some forty small plots in Troissy, Dormans, Mareuil-le-Port, Vandières and Aÿ, with very different subsoils. The picking order is set by the ripeness of the grapes. Like his grandfather Aimé, Alexis bases his work in vineyard and cellar on the lunar cycles.
Method The grapes are vinified 25% in barrels and 75% in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks; the single-plot cuvées are vinified in oak only. Reserve wines are kept in foudres.
