Champagne Thiénot is an independent, modern champagne house based in Reims, founded in 1985 by Alain Thiénot. After a career as a wine broker he bought vineyards in grand and premier cru areas, including Aÿ, Côte des Blancs, Dizy and Cumières. The house currently has approximately 30 hectares of its own vineyards, accounting for more than 50% of the grapes it needs, while the rest are bought from trusted winegrowers.
The working method is characteristic of an innovative approach: Alain Thiénot opted early on for inox tanks to preserve the aromatic freshness and integrity of the grapes. The champagnes age for 4 to 8 years in the house's underground cellars (with millésimes able to age for up to 16 years). The current team is formed by the children Stanislas and Garance Thiénot, with Nicolas Uriel as chef de caves since 2017, who combine the original vision with a contemporary elegance.
The product portfolio includes four prestigious cuvées and the house style:
- Thiénot Brut: The best-selling cuvée, consisting of 45% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier, enriched with 20% reserve wines.
- Cuvée Alain Thiénot: A vintage millésime of 60% Chardonnay (Côte des Blancs) and 40% Pinot Noir (Montagne de Reims).
- Cuvée Stanislas: A vintage blanc de blancs from the Côte des Blancs.
- Cuvée Garance and La Vigne aux Gamins: Further vintage specialities.
- Rosé: Made with 45% Pinot Noir (partly vinified into red wine), complemented with Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier.
