Champagne Tanneux-Mahy is a family business based in Mardeuil, close to Épernay, which has produced champagnes for four generations. The history begins in 1921 with Maurice Tanneux, who sold the first champagnes under the name Tanneux-Collard. In the years that followed, André Tanneux and his wife Micheline Mahy took the lead, after which they renamed the estate Champagne Tanneux-Mahy and expanded the area. Since 2009 the reins have been held by Christophe and Katia Tanneux, the fourth generation, who in 2025 were joined by Romane.
The vineyards now cover approximately 7 to 8 hectares, spread over the communes of Mardeuil, Verneuil, Aÿ and Épernay, on both banks of the Marne. The estate practises respectful and environmentally conscious farming; it holds the HVE Level 3 certification (Haute Valeur Environnementale) and uses ground cover between the rows to limit chemical inputs and preserve biodiversity.
The working method is characterised by a mix of traditional and modern techniques, such as vinification in wooden barrels (fûts) for specific cuvées, and the use of inox cuves. Much attention is paid to old vines and specific terroirs, such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from 75+ year old vines in Mardeuil. The champagnes are often not dosed (Brut Nature) or have minimal dosage, to preserve the pure expression of the grape.
Some notable champagnes are:
- La Centennaire: A 100% Pinot Meunier cuvée to mark the 100th anniversary, made from a blend of five harvest years (2014-2018) and Brut Nature.
- Rosé de Macération: A rosé with 89/100 points from Vinalies Internationales 2026, made from 15% Chardonnay, 43% Pinot Noir and 42% Meunier (vendange 2023), known for its fresh and balanced profile.
- Fût de Chêne: A Brut with 89/100 points, consisting of 57% Pinot Noir and 37% Chardonnay, which ages in wooden barrels for aromas of candied white fruit and vanilla.
- Millésime 2014: Selected in the Guide Hachette 2025 with 2 stars, an intense brut with fruity and exotic notes (mango, apricot) and fresh citrus zest.
Visitors can, by appointment, be given a tour of the cellar, the pressoir and the tonnerie, followed by a tasting. The estate can be reached at 2 rue Jean Jaurès, 51530 Mardeuil.
