Champagne Sourdet-Diot is a family business in the Vallée de la Marne, located in La Chapelle-Monthodon (not Chézy-sur-Marne, but in the hamlet of Chézy). The history begins in 1962 when Raymond Sourdet plants vines; in 1975/1980 his son Patrick and daughter-in-law Nadine Diot start out as Récoltant-Manipulant, their names merging into Sourdet-Diot. The third generation, Ludivine and Damien, continue the tradition.
The estate manages 8.5 to 11.3 hectares of vineyards with a south-east exposure on clay-limestone and chalk soil. The grape varieties are 75% Pinot Meunier, 20% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Noir. The working method is biodynamics-friendly (Raisonnée) with hand harvesting, vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel cuves and oak barrels, and ice disgorgement at -27°C.
The champagnes include:
- Brut Tradition: 70% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay; supple and fruity.
- Cuvée de Réserve: 80% Pinot Meunier, 20% Chardonnay; fruity and round.
- Millésime: 70% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Meunier, 10% Pinot Noir; full with a long aftertaste.
- Les Insolites: Cuvées raised in oak casks.
- Rosé: Made by the saignée method.
Visitors can visit the estate for tours and tastings; the house is recognised as a Welkompunt on the Tourist Route of Champagne and is a member of the Fédération des Vignerons Indépendants.
