## History The champagne house was founded in 1929 by Socrate Malot, the first generation to begin making champagne. The name of the house and of the second generation, Sadi Malot, refers to the French president Sadi Carnot, who was assassinated on the same day as Sadi's birth. The original Sadi Malot fell in the First World War, after which the business was continued by four further generations; today the house is run by Franck, Christine, Florian and Cindy.
Vineyards
The family owns its own vineyards in Villers-Marmery (Montagne de Reims) and parcels in Verzy/Verzenay. The total area is approximately 10 hectares (sources vary between 8.2 and 10 ha), situated on grumpy, east-facing soils. A unique feature is that the grape variety distribution is dominated by Chardonnay (80-98%), while the rest consists of Pinot Noir. The vineyards in Villers-Marmery are classified Premier Cru, while the plots in Verzy/Verzenay belong to the Grand Cru class.
Working Methods
Sadi Malot is known for its respect for the terroir and minimal intervention in the vinification process. The viticulture has been fully organically certified (AB) since 2021, after a gradual transition that began with culture raisonnée and HVE certification in 2014. In the cellar, the reserve stock perpetuelle (perpetual reserve) is used, which has existed since 1982, to ensure consistency and complexity. The winegrowers prefer traditional methods, such as hand harvesting and long ageing, and use large wooden casks (foudres) for certain cuvées.
Champagnes
The portfolio consists mainly of Blanc de Blancs champagnes that highlight the freshness and finesse of Chardonnay. Some well-known cuvées are:
- Les Alouettes: A Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra-Brut.
- Cuvée Socrate: A vintage or specific selection in honour of the founder.
- Brut Nature / Zéro Liqueur: Champagnes without added sugar, for a pure expression of the terroir.
- Les 2 Cépages: A cuvée that combines Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, from Grand Cru plots.
- Rosé de Saignée: A rosé champagne made by the maceration technique.
The champagnes are praised for their delicacy, freshness and authenticity, and are available in price ranges from approximately €25 to higher segments for vintage and reserve stock cuvées.
