Champagne Pol Couronne is a traditional champagne house based in Reims at 11 Cours Jean-Baptiste Langlet, within walking distance of Notre-Dame Cathedral. The history of the house goes back to 1887, when Pol Auguste Couronne founded the business and in 1921 received the honorary title "Knight in the Order of Agricultural Merit". Today the house is run by Jean-Baptiste Prévost, who took over the vintages in 2013/2015 to modernise tradition and quality.
The champagnes are made from grapes from prestigious vineyards, including Grand Cru areas such as Avize, Ambonnay and Bouzy. The house practises sustainable viticulture (agriculture raisonnée) and respects the soil to preserve the unique identity of Champagne. Production comprises a careful blend of the three main grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
The range consists of six cuvées, including four Grand Crus. Well-known champagnes are:
- Brut: A balanced blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir.
- Grand Cru 75-25: A blend of 75% Pinot Noir from Grand Cru areas and 25% Chardonnay.
- Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs: A Grand Cru of 100% Chardonnay.
- Millésimé: Vintage champagnes such as the 2008 and 2012, which show power and minerality.
- Brut Rosé and Rosé de Saignée Grand Cru: Rosé champagnes made respectively from a blend with red wine or by pressing red grapes.
Visitors can visit the boutique from Monday to Saturday (10:00-20:00) for tastings, masterclasses or the traditional sabering of champagne bottles. The website https://champagne-polcouronne.com offers more information about the products and experiences.
