History Maison Ployez-Jacquemart was founded in 1930 in Ludes (Montagne de Reims) by architect Marcel Ployez and his wife Yvonne Jacquemart. The house moved in 1947 to its current location at 8 rue Astoin. After decades as a family business it was taken over in 2004 by the Prieux Group. The current managing director and chef de cave is Laurence Ployez (granddaughter of the founder), who has run the house since 2017 with a focus on traditional craftsmanship.
Vineyards The house's own vineyards cover only 3 hectares on terroirs in Ludes, Ville-Dommange, Mailly Champagne and Vertus (Premier and Grand Cru). The grape varieties are Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay. The vineyards are certified under the sustainability standards HVE (High Environmental Value) and VDC (Viticulture Durable en Champagne). Special attention goes to a plot of Meunier (AB390) in Ludes, planted in 1955.
Approach The house follows an Extra Brut style with low dosage (maximum 5 g/l for the most dosed cuvée) to preserve fruitiness and freshness. Characteristic is the sur pointe ageing method (bottles upside down), in which the wine comes into contact with the yeasts for a shorter time, resulting in more clarity and stability. Vinification is often done per plot, using both stainless steel vats and oak barrels. Production is limited to fewer than 100,000 bottles per year.
Champagnes and Portfolio The range consists of nine cuvées, including:
- Extra Quality Brut: A blend of all three grape varieties.
- Extra Brut Rosé: A Rosé d’Assemblage, often enriched with red wine from Mailly.
- Blanc de Blancs Passion Extra Brut: A Chardonnay cuvée, partly aged in wood and without malolactic fermentation.
- Lisse d’Harbonville Millésime Brut: The prestige cuvée, fully aged in wood, without malolactic fermentation, filtration or fining.
- Cuvée Granite: A unique blend of great vintages (including 1976, 1990, 2012).
- Parcelle AB 390 Extra-Brut Vintage: A 100% Meunier cuvée from the specific plot in Ludes.
Visitors can visit the house for tours of the cellars, the press and the vineyards, organised in French and English.
