Champagne Olivier Père et Fils is an independent champagne house in Trélou-sur-Marne (Marne Valley), run by the fourth generation of brothers Olivier and affiliated with the Vignerons Indépendants.
History
The family began growing grapes in 1910 on a plot of 1.5 hectares. The first own champagne was produced around 1968, marking the official start of the champagne house.
Vineyards
The grapes come from approximately 11 to 20 hectares of vineyard with about twenty plots. These lie on steep, south-facing slopes with a remarkably chalk-rich clay soil, ideal for Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Approach
The brothers work traditionally, with an eye for quality and sustainability (Haute Valeur Environnementale). They emphasise manual working methods in the vineyard and the production of fruity, harmonious champagnes with complex aromas and fine bubbles.
Champagnes
The champagnes vary in style and composition:
- Brut Tradition: 80% Pinot Meunier, 10% Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay.
- Brut Rosé: 80% Pinot Meunier, 10% Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay.
- Demi-Sec: 80% Pinot Meunier, 10% Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay.
- Grande Réserve: contains 40% Pinot Noir (composition otherwise incomplete in sources).
The champagnes show aromas of almonds, pear and brioche, with a fresh attack of green apple and a creamy finish.
