Champagne Naveau is a family business based in Bergères-les-Vertus (Côte des Blancs), with a vineyard of more than 150 years of history and a focus on Chardonnay.
History
The house has been in the hands of the Naveau family since the 19th century. Since 1998 Christian Naveau has run the estate, building on the heritage of his father. The family has owned farmland in this region for more than a century and forty years.
Vineyards
The vineyards lie in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, known as the birthplace of Chardonnay. Chardonnay is by far the dominant grape, accounting for 90% of the plantings. The remaining grape varieties are Pinot Noir and Meunier. The vineyards are largely classified Premier Cru.
Approach
Naveau takes a sustainable and ecological approach, avoiding chemical fertilisers and pesticides. A distinctive aspect is the long ageing on the lees; all champagnes age for at least 36 months. Exclusive cuvées such as 'Demain' age for 60 months and 'Rhapsodie' even for 120 months, which contributes to complexity and quality.
Champagnes
The champagnes are known for their freshness and finesse, thanks to the terroir and the long ageing. Some examples are:
- Harmonie 1er Cru Brut
- Demain (60 months of ageing)
- Rhapsodie (120 months of ageing)
