Champagne Mouzon-Leroux is a family estate in Verzy, a Grand Cru village on the northern side of the Montagne de Reims, run by Sébastien Mouzon.
- History: The family has grown vines since 1776 and made its first Champagnes in 1938. Sébastien Mouzon, the ninth generation, worked at the estate from 2001 and took it over in 2008.
- Vineyards and terroir: The estate has around a hundred plots, most of them in Verzy and the rest in Verzenay, Ludes and Villers-Marmery. Pinot Noir dominates in Verzy, with Chardonnay on the southernmost of the village's three ridges.
- Approach and style: Conversion to organic and biodynamic farming began in 2008; the estate is certified biodynamic and also practises agroforestry. All wines are fermented in barrel (no new oak), no sulphur is added at pressing, and the Champagnes are bottled at 5 rather than 6 bar of pressure for a more vinous texture.
- Cuvées: These include L'Atavique (Verzy Grand Cru, around 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay), L'Ascendant (solera), L'Angélique Blanc de Blancs and L'Incandescent, a rosé de saignée.
