Champagne Minard & Filles is an independent champagne house based in Courmas (51390), located on the Montagne de Reims between Reims and Épernay. The house combines a rich family tradition with a modern, feminine vision and a passion for equestrian sport.
History and Family
The origins of the house go back to 1922, when the Minard family began producing champagne. For decades the business was carried by male family members: Lucien, René and Patrick. In 2013 Patrick handed over management to his daughter Audrey Promsy, who ended her career as a nurse to become the first female head of the family business. Together with her husband Richard, who had already worked on the estate for ten years, she created the brand name Minard & Filles. This name honours the new generation: their daughters Léanne and Abigaël and their nieces Ondine and Éléonore, whose names are also used for specific cuvées. The house's logo, a horse's mane, symbolises the shared family passion for equestrian sport and represents the qualities of the champagnes: spirit, strength, nobility and liveliness.
Vineyards and Terroir
The vineyards cover 4.13 hectares and lie in the heart of the Champagne wine-growing region. The team uses all three traditional champagne grape varieties:
- Pinot Noir
- Pinot Meunier
- Chardonnay
The grapes are grown using sustainable farming and the estate is certified with the HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) label. This certificate guarantees cultivation in harmony with nature, selecting only the healthiest and ripest grapes to preserve the authenticity of the terroir.
Approach and Vinification
The philosophy of Minard & Filles revolves around authenticity and letting the terroir speak.
- Vinification: Audrey Minard carries out the vinification in stainless steel tanks, oak barrels or a combination of both, depending on the desired profile of each cuvée.
- Maceration rosé: A speciality of the house is the rare maceration rosé (maceration champagne). This process, in which the skins of the red grapes are in contact with the must for 12 to 24 hours, has been used since 1995. The result is a complex, aromatic rosé that accounts for only 5% of all rosé champagnes.
- Fertilisation: The grapes are carefully harvested and assessed for quality and health before being destemmed and lightly crushed to release aromas and colour.
Champagnes and Prices
The champagnes are known for their typicity and unique expression in each cuvée. Some well-known cuvées are:
- Les Terres Noires: A 100% Pinot Meunier Blanc de Noirs with aromas of black fruit, coffee and orange peel, often aged in wood.
- Cuvées named after family members: Such as Abigaël, Ondine, Léanne and Éléonore.
The house has received various awards, including:
- Gold Medal at the Concours des Vignerons Indépendants (2018) for Brut - Abigaël.
- Silver Medal (2017) for Brut - Eléonor - Rosé.
- Mentions in the Guide Hachette des Vins (2019) for the cuvées Ondine and Eléonore.
