Champagne Michel Tixier is an independent family business in Chigny-les-Roses (Montagne de Reims), founded in 1963 by Michel Tixier and run since 1998 by his son Benoît. The estate is known for its authentic, traditional approach and produces champagnes that reflect the specific characteristics of their terroir.
Vineyards and Terroir The estate manages approximately 9 hectares of vineyard (sometimes stated as 5-9 ha), spread over 50 plots in 9 different villages within three major regions: Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs and Vallée de la Marne. The grape varieties are Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, with Pinot Gris added since 2020. This scattered holding allows them to produce eight different terroir champagnes, including single-vineyard cuvées.
Approach and Visits As a Vigneron Indépendant, the champagne is produced entirely on the estate, from harvest to bottle. Visitors can book a cellar tour, including a tasting of three champagnes, and have the option of exploring the vineyards by electric bike. The house offers guidance in French and English, is child-friendly and welcomes campervans.
Champagnes and Cuvées The range includes six to eight different cuvées, including:
- Coeur de Montagne: A Premier Cru blend of Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay.
- Blanc de Blancs: A Premier Cru made from 100% Chardonnay.
- Le Meunier de la Vallée: A single-varietal made from Pinot Meunier.
- Rosé de Saignée: A Premier Cru rosé from 100% Pinot Meunier.
- Les 9 Crus: A blend that sums up the diversity of the nine villages.
