Champagne Michel Turgy is an independent family business located at 17 rue de l'Orme in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, which has produced champagnes in the Côte des Blancs since 1881. The history began with Émile Turgy, who founded the business after his marriage to Eugénie Doiselet; the brand name TURGY was created in the 1920s by his son Maurice. Management is now in the hands of the fifth generation: Jean-Michel Turgy, his wife Catherine and their son Thibaut, who continue the family tradition from father to son.
The vineyard holding covers 6 hectares and lies exclusively on the prestigious Grand Cru land of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. The house style is dominated by 100% Chardonnay, a choice that shapes the elegant, fine and mineral profiles of the champagnes. The business uses a fully integrated model in which all champagnes are made exclusively from its own grapes, guaranteeing complete control over the process from vine to bottle.
The approach combines traditional methods with modern care; the grape must is pressed gently to ensure purity, after which fermentation and ageing take place in different environments, including oak barrels for certain cuvées such as the Cuvée 211. This approach emphasises the expression of the chalky terroir and results in champagnes with a long aging potential and complex aromas of white flowers, citrus and brioche.
The range includes various grand cru cuvées, such as:
- Blanc de Blancs Brut: A classic, fine expression of Chardonnay.
- Rosé Grand Cru: A rare blend of Chardonnay and a small percentage of Pinot Noir from Bouzy.
- Cuvée 211 Millésimé: An aged, annual speciality that matures in oak barrels.
- Vieilles Vignes: Champagnes from old vines, characterised by more body and depth.
- Coteaux Champenois: A still white wine from 100% Chardonnay for lovers of more mature wine styles.
Visitors can visit the estate on weekdays from 08:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 18:00 for cellar visits and tastings. Contact details are telephone +33 3 26 57 53 43 and e-mail [email protected].
