Champagne Liébart-Régnier is an independent champagne house based in Baslieux-sous-Chatillon (Vallée de la Marne), founded in 1960 by Lucien Liébart and Georgette Régnier. The estate is run today by the third generation: Laurent and Valérie Liébart, together with their daughters Alexandra and Marion.
History and Terroir
The Liébart and Régnier families have been farming their land for more than 7 generations. The winegrowing area of 10 to 11 hectares lies exclusively on the family estate and stretches across the two banks of the Marne: Vauciennes (Rive Gauche, Liébart family) and Baslieux-sous-Chatillon (Rive Droite, Régnier family). The vineyards have argilo-calcaire soils and are cultivated with respect for the environment, certified with the HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) label.
Vineyards and Grape Varieties
The estate grows all 7 permitted grape varieties in Champagne:
- Main varieties: Meunier (60%), Pinot Noir (20%), Chardonnay (20%).
- Ancestral varieties: Arbane, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris (to a lesser extent).
- Harvest: Hand harvest, with pruning methods such as Chablis and Cordon de Royat.
- Wine production: On average 60,000 bottles a year.
Winemaking and Vinification
The vinification follows the traditional Champagne tradition with minimal inputs. The grapes are pressed in a DIEMME press (certified by INAO). The must is fermented in thermostatically controlled stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, with each plot processed separately to preserve terroir expression. The house works with an independent oenologist.
