Champagne Joseph Desruets is an independent champagne house in Hautvillers (Marne valley), founded in 1888 by Edmond-Alexandre and Laure Vautrin-Gillet. The house is currently run by the sixth generation, Matthias and Thomas Kim Eun Desruets, who continue the family passion for wine.
The vineyards cover 2.2 hectares in Hautvillers, a Premier Cru village. Since 2010 the vines have been grown entirely without synthetic products, and the house has been certified organic since 2020. Production is limited to about 20,000 bottles per year, which contributes to the exclusivity and quality of the champagnes.
The approach is characterised by the use of the historic Darcq-Flamain press from 1888, one of the oldest presses still active in Champagne. This oak press with a capacity of 4,000 kg ensures gentle pressing and preserves the unique terroir characteristics. Since 2012 they have also vinified micro-batches in oak barrels (Burgundy 228 L and Champagne 205 L) to add complexity.
The champagnes are made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Well-known cuvées are:
- Signature: A blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier.
- Cuvée Nature: A dry, pure expression of the grapes.
- Coeur de Pinots: A blend of exclusively Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
- Cuvée Soleil de Mai: A premium blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
- Cuvée IV: A vintage champagne (e.g. 2016) of high quality.
Visitors can visit the cellar and the press, and take part in walks through the vineyards or tastings.
