Champagne J.L. Vergnon is a family business based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, known for its exclusive Blancs de Blancs and low dosages.
History
The family has been involved with the house for five generations (almost two centuries). Jean-Louis Vergnon rebuilt the estate in 1950 and began producing his own champagnes in 1985, soon winning a "Coup de Cœur" from the Guide Hachette. Since 1999 Didier Vergnon has run the estate, supported by his son Clément (third generation) and oenologist Julian Goût.
Vineyards and Terroir
The estate has 5 to 5.5 hectares of vineyards, planted exclusively with Chardonnay.
- Locations: Mainly in Mesnil-sur-Oger (Grand Cru), with additional plots in Oger, Avize, Vertus and Villeneuve (Premier Cru).
- Characteristics: The vineyards have an average age of more than 30 years and varying exposures.
- Sustainability: Viticulture is reasoned (lutte raisonnée) with an HVE 3 label; no weedkiller is used and the soil is grassed over.
Winemaking
- Vinification: The grapes are harvested by hand and pressed immediately in a traditional vertical press.
- Style: The house avoids malolactic fermentation for a fresh, lively taste. The wine ages mainly in stainless steel vats, with the exception of certain cuvées (such as Éloquence) that are aged in oak barrels of 300 litres.
- Dosage: The champagnes are known for their extra-brut style, often very low-dosed (sometimes 0-3 g/l sugar) or as Brut Nature.

- Conversation: Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs.
- Éloquence: Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, partly aged in wood.
- Murmure: Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs, often Brut Nature.
- Rosémotion: Grand Cru Rosé (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir).
- Millésimés: Vintage champagnes such as MSNL, O.G. and Résonance, often with long ageing on the lees.
