History: The champagne house Huguenot-Tassin was founded in 1984 by Benoît and Marie-Claire Huguenot in Celles-sur-Ource, a village in the Côte des Bar (Aube). The Tassin family was involved in winegrowing early on; the great-grandfather of the current owner Édouard was even the initiator of the first communal press house in the village. The house is now run by the fourth generation, including Édouard Huguenot, who took over the business in 2008 and expanded it.
Vineyards and Terroir: The estate has a 6-hectare vineyard with argilo-calcaire (clay-limestone) soil. Half of the vineyards consist of old vines of 55 to 65 years. The house distinguishes itself by cultivating Pinot Blanc, a traditional but rare grape variety in the Côte des Bar, which gives it a unique flavour. Other important grape varieties are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Winemaking: Huguenot-Tassin practises sustainable viticulture with the hallmarks Terra Vitis (for viticulture raisonnée) and HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale). The focus is on precision, respect for the environment and the avoidance of herbicides. The estate is affiliated with the Champagne de Vignerons label, which guarantees that the winegrowers vinify their own grapes.
Champagnes and Cuvées: The champagnes are known for their finesse and expressiveness. Some core products are:
- Les Fioles: A Blanc de Blancs (mainly Chardonnay with Pinot Blanc), known for its elegance.
- Cuvée Noire Spéciale: A Blanc de Noirs made from 100% Pinot Noir from old vines, often aged for a long time.
- Signature and Cuvée Réserve: Blends typical of the estate, often with a mix of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.
- Cuvée Tradition: A fruity and fresh champagne, often composed of Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc.
