Champagne Henri Giraud is a family house in Aÿ, with roots in the village going back to 1625, and it is still owned by the founding family.
- History: In 1625 the Hémart family settled in Aÿ. In the early twentieth century Léon Giraud, who fought in the Battle of the Marne, married into the family. After the Second World War, Léon and his son Henri founded the house of Henri Giraud and began bottling champagne under their own name; before that the grapes had been sold. Claude Giraud, the twelfth generation, took charge in 1982 and gave the house fresh impetus. Sébastien Le Golvet has been cellar master since 2002.
- Approach and style: Oak is the main vessel for fermentation and maturation, lending the wines weight, structure and power. Claude Giraud reintroduced oak from the nearby Argonne forest, once Champagne's main source of cooperage wood, and revived a perpetual reserve dating back to the 1950s.
- Cuvées: The first Cuvée Fût de Chêne Aÿ Grand Cru was released in 1990, establishing the house's signature style. The range also includes the MV series Aÿ Grand Cru, Hommage au Pinot Noir, Esprit Nature, Blanc de Craie and the rosé Dame-Jane.
