Champagne Gratiot-Delugny is a récoltant-manipulant located in Crouttes-sur-Marne (Vallée de la Marne), founded in 1947 but going back to agreements from 1869 and 1889. The current leadership is in the hands of David Gratiot, who continues the family tradition from father to son.
History and Heritage
The origins lie with Jules Paul Gratiot and Louise Vincent (1869) and later Alfred and Mathilde Delugny (1889). Émile Gratiot and Louise Delugny married in 1932 and began their own vinification and sales in 1945/1947. The house combines centuries-old craftsmanship with modernism, with David Gratiot as chef de cave creating the blends for more than twenty years.
Vineyards and Terroir
The estate has 10 hectares of vineyards spread over Crouttes-sur-Marne, Nanteuil-sur-Marne and Charly-sur-Marne. The soil consists of argilo-calcaire ground (marls, hard limestone, sands and clays). The grape varieties are Pinot Meunier (fruity, aromatic), Chardonnay (fine, elegant) and Pinot Noir (powerful). Viticulture is reasoned (raisonnée) and aimed at respect for the environment.
Method
Vinification takes place in stainless steel cuves and partly in oak barrels. The house follows the traditional method with:
- Manual pupitre for turning the bottles (1/8 to 1/4 turn).
- Dégorgement à la glace (freezing the neck at -25°C) to remove the sediment.
- Malolactic fermentation for the white cuvées.
- A production of 90,000 to 100,000 bottles a year.

The range comprises six main cuvées plus special editions:
- Brut Réserve: 80% Pinot Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir; fruity and perfect as an aperitif.
- Brut Sélection: 60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir; lively with fine bubbles, suitable for everyday enjoyment.
- Brut Rosé: Blend of Chardonnay and Pinot.
