Champagne Gondé-Rousseaux is a small, family wine house in Taissy (Montagne de Reims), founded in 1976 by Édith Rousseaux and Didier Gondé. Since 2013 the estate has been run by Florian Gondé, who shares the passion for the craft with his parents. The address is 47A Rue des Ailettes, 51500 Taissy, and visits are by appointment.
Vineyards and Terroir The estate manages about 3.5 to 3.96 hectares of vineyards in first classification (Premier Cru), divided over specific plots such as Haut des Roncières, Neptune and Saturne. The soil consists mainly of limestone. The grape varieties are Pinot Meunier (40%), Chardonnay (30%) and Pinot Noir (30%). Production is limited to a maximum of 25,000 bottles a year, with each plot treated uniquely.
Method and Philosophy Gondé-Rousseaux takes a biodynamic and organic approach. Florian Gondé gradually eliminated chemical products, which resulted in Demeter certification in 2023 and the first organic harvest in 2022. Vinification is gentle and creative: work is done with small volumes, in tanks and barrels, with natural settling and alcoholic fermentation at room temperature. Minimal sulphur is added, and the champagnes age on the lees for 8 months, followed by 5 years in barrels.
Champagnes The house style is characterised by single vineyard character and micro-vinification. Some striking cuvées are:
- Blanc de Noirs: Consisting of 80% Pinot Meunier and 20% Pinot Noir.
- Blanc de Fût: A barrel-aged champagne that won gold at the Concours des Chardonnays du Monde (2009 cuvée).
- Chapitre I: A cuvée reflecting the evolution from 2014 to 2021, with a dosage of 2 g/L.
