## History Fleur de Miraval is an exclusive rosé champagne house that was officially launched in 2020, after a secret project that began as early as 2015. It is the result of a collaboration between three families: the Perrin family (owners of Château de Beaucastel and Miraval Provence), the Pitt family (Brad Pitt) and the Péters family (Champagne Pierre Péters). The vision was to create a rosé champagne that combines the elegance of Chardonnay with the freshness of Pinot Noir, a style that did not yet exist at the time.
Vineyards and Grapes
The house works mainly with purchased grapes, although the Péters family uses its own Grand Cru plots in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger (Côte des Blancs) for the Chardonnay.
- Grape varieties: The blend consists on average of 75-85% Chardonnay and 15-25% Pinot Noir.
- Origin: The Chardonnay comes from Grand Cru plots around Mesnil-sur-Oger, while the Pinot Noir comes from premier cru plots in Vertus.
- Age: The average age of the vines is around 30-35 years.
Method
Fleur de Miraval uses a very careful vinification method to preserve the characteristic style:
- Rosé method: The Pinot Noir is processed using the 'saignée' method (bleeding), in which the grapes macerate briefly for a soft colour and aromas.
- Fermentation: Fermentation is done plot by plot in stainless steel vats, sometimes with partial malolactic fermentation in warm years.
- Ageing and Reserve: The wine ages on the lees. A unique element is the 'remise en cercle': a rare technique in which bottles of champagne are opened, degassed, reblended and refermented. In addition, the house uses a perpetual reserve (since 2007) that is topped up annually.
- Dosage: All champagnes are Extra Brut with less than 5 grams of residual sugar per litre.
Champagnes
The portfolio consists of two main products: 1. Fleur de Miraval (ER): The flagship cuvée, numbered (ER1 to ER4). The recent versions (such as ER4, base 2019) show a complex structure with notes of red fruit, citrus and spiciness. 2. Petite Fleur: The more accessible entry-level cuvée, launched in 2023 (base 2019). It contains more vin de l'année (current year) and has a lighter, fruitier profile with notes of cherry and strawberry.
Total annual production is around 40,000 bottles, which gives the house an exclusive and niche character within the Champagne region.
