Champagne Feneuil-Pointillart is a family business in Chamery (51500), located in the heart of the Petite Montagne de Reims, with a history going back to the 17th century. The estate, now run by Astrid and Benjamin Feneuil (third generation), is certified for HVE (High Environmental Value) and VDC (Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne).
Vineyards and Terroir The estate manages about 7.5 hectares of vineyards, all classified as Premier Cru. The soil consists of sandy clay-limestone, ideal for the three main varieties: Pinot Noir (dominant, ~60%), Meunier (~30-45%) and Chardonnay (~10-25%). The vines are grown according to raisonné principles, with hand harvesting and careful vineyard management such as pruning and thinning.
Method Feneuil-Pointillart uses the traditional method. The grapes are pressed in a traditional wooden Coquard press, after which alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. For white wines a malolactic fermentation is applied to lower the acidity. The champagne ages for several years on the yeast (lees) in the cellars; some cuvées are also aged in oak barrels. The estate also produces intermediate cuvées (millésimes), which stay in the cellar for years before being bottled and released.
Champagnes The range includes various Premier Cru cuvées, varying in price and style:
- Brut Tradition: The iconic blend of Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay, with ~40% reserve wines.
- Brut Rosé: A rosé champagne by blending.
- Marquis de Luth: A Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay), Extra Brut.
- Cuvée Louis: A millésimé (vintage) champagne.
- La Belle Vie: A high-quality, micro-production cuvée.
- Demi-Sec: A sweeter style of champagne.
- Blanc de Nuit: A temporary, extra-brut blanc de noirs made from a night harvest.
Visitors can visit the estate at 21 rue du Jard, 51500 Chamery for tastings and cellar visits (by appointment, except Sunday). Contact: 03.26.97.62.35 or [email protected].
