Famille Collet is a nine-generation-old champagne house based in Fontaine-Denis-Nuisy in the Côte de Sézanne, with a history going back to 1744. The estate is currently run by the brothers Thomas and Florent Collet, who since 2002 (officially established as a modern estate in 1973) continue the legacy with a focus on authenticity and expression of terroir.
The vineyards cover 6 to 6.5 hectares and are divided over 17 plots with a mosaic of soil types, including white chalk soil and brown, flint-rich earth. The brothers plant old vines of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and follow an organic or very respectful viticultural approach. They avoid chemical pesticides, use only copper and sulphur, promote biodiversity through hedges and wildlife havens, and deliberately limit yields to maximise the quality of each plot.
The champagnes are characterised by a low-dosage style, resulting in muscular and sunny wines that reflect the character of the soil. In the cellar they work patiently with long ageing in foudres, demi-muids and barriques. The blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, combined with careful dosage, forms the signature of their cuvées, which are produced as récoltant-manipulant with a philosophy of freedom and loyalty to the family heritage.
