Champagne Decotte-Augé is an independent wine producer based in Mailly-Champagne, a Grand Cru village in the Montagne de Reims. The estate, built in 1897, is known for its traditional features such as hand-dug cellars 12 metres deep and leaded stained-glass windows.
History and Vineyards In 1920 the wine broker Paulin Decotte transformed the family business into the prestigious Decotte brand. The vineyards cover 33 plots with vines of an average of fifty years old, spread over the villages of Mailly-Champagne, Verzenay, Montbre and Chamery. The estate makes use of the local Grand Cru soils, where Pinot Noir is the dominant grape, complemented by Chardonnay.
Approach and Champagnes Decotte-Augé practises biodynamic viticulture, using sheep for grazing and manure as a natural soil improver. The house produces, among others, the signature "Tradition Cauda-Lie", a balanced blend of 30% Chardonnay and 70% Pinot Noir. Other available cuvées are Brut, Réserve and Rosé, all produced according to the traditional method. Visitors can visit the cellars and vineyards by appointment, located directly opposite the winery at 1 rue de la Libération.
