Champagne David Léclapart is a small estate of around 3 hectares in Trépail, a village in the Montagne de Reims that is unusually planted almost entirely with chardonnay. David Léclapart is regarded as one of Champagne's most vocal advocates of biodynamic farming.
- History: Léclapart was introduced to biodynamics while studying at the École d'Agrobiologie de Beaujeu in Beaujolais, and after taking over the family estate he converted it to organic and then biodynamic farming.
- Vineyards and terroir: The vineyards lie in Trépail, divided into many small parcels on chalky soil. Most of the champagnes come from a single vintage and a single vineyard.
- Approach and style: The entry-level L'Amateur is fermented with indigenous yeasts in enamelled-steel tanks; the other cuvées are wholly or partly fermented in second-hand barrels. The champagnes are released without dosage and made with as little sulphur as possible.
- Cuvées: L'Amateur, L'Artiste, L'Apôtre (from a single vineyard of old vines) and L'Aphrodisiaque. He also makes a Coteaux Champenois rosé from Trépail.
