Champagne Daniel Collin is a family business based in Baye (Marne), founded in 1959 by Daniel Collin and currently run by his son Hervé Collin (since 1983) and granddaughter Adeline (since 2016). The business produces approximately 25,000 bottles a year from a 5-hectare vineyard between the Côte des Blancs and the Sézannais.
The vineyards are cultivated according to the principles of viticulture raisonnée (balanced viticulture) and are planted with the classic grape varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. The terroir consists of marl, clay-limestone and chalk. The approach combines traditional artisanal methods with modern innovations; vinification takes place in stainless steel and enamelled tanks with plot-by-plot pressing, and ageing traditionally takes place on laths, with special cuvées also being turned via the gyropalette.
The range consists of five to six core cuvées, including:
- Brut Tradition: A powerful blend (90% black grapes) with fruity and floral notes.
- Grande Réserve: A non-millésime brut for under 20 euros.
- Rosé: A blended rosé champagne, also under 20 euros.
- Blanc de Noirs: An extra brut made exclusively from black grapes.
- Sensations: A sweeter (sec) cuvée.
- Esprit Shiraz: A unique cuvée between 20 and 30 euros.
Visitors can, by appointment (from 9:00), follow a tour of approximately 60 minutes, including a tasting of the various cuvées, in French or English.
