Champagne Blaise-Lourdez is an independent winemaking house, located at 2 Le Bas des Longues Raies, 51480 Damery, that has existed since 1812. It is currently run by Bruno and Isabelle Blaise (and son Antoine), who continue their family's two-century-old traditions in the heart of the Champagne region.
Vineyards and Region The house has 8 hectares of vineyards, which positions it as a medium-sized independent winegrower. The vineyards lie in the Vallée de la Marne, where the soil has little mineral content, which promotes the expression of grape varieties. The property is certified under High Environmental Value (HVE) and the vines are harvested by hand with attention to optimal ripeness.
Approach and Oenology Bruno Blaise, the independent winemaker, uses a specific vinification method: no malolactic fermentations take place. This preserves the natural acidity of the grapes, which contributes to wines with a long finish. The focus is on patience during the harvest to optimise the balance between sugar and acid.
Champagnes and Tastings The range consists of seven champagnes, particularly known for their 100% Pinot Meunier and Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay). Important cuvées are:
- Cuvée NATURE Pur Meunier: A zero-dosage champagne made from old Pinot Meunier vines.
- Cuvée Louis François: A lively Chardonnay.
- Cuvée Charme: A matured Blanc de Blanc (more than 6 years on the racks) with brioche aromas.
- Cuvée Prestige: Blends of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, including rosé variants.
Visitors are welcomed for cellar tours and tastings, with the tastings often taking place in the large garden in summer. Opening hours are generally Monday to Saturday from 10:00-12:00 and 14:00-17:00.
