Champagne Bernard Rémy is a family business located in Allemant (Côte des Blancs), a few kilometres from Reims and Épernay. The house is known for its value for money and frequent mentions in the French Guide Hachette.
History and Leadership
- Founding: Bernard Remy bought his first vineyards in 1968 and launched his first cuvées on the French market.
- Expansion: In 1983 he built his own cellar to gain full control over production; in 1986 followed the purchase of 3 hectares, which tripled production.
- Current leadership: His son Rudy Remy joined the operation in 1996 and took over management in 2008/2009, also adopting the status of négociant.
Vineyards and Production
- Area: The business manages approximately 11 hectares of its own vineyards (sources vary between 8-14 ha), spread over the Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne.
- Cépages: There is a strong focus on Chardonnay, but Pinot Noir (for Blanc de Noirs and Prestige) and Meunier are also used.
- Volume: Approximately 100,000 bottles are produced annually.
- Cellar: The cellar was extended in the 1990s, 1997 and most recently in 2008 to guarantee optimal ageing conditions.
Champagnes and Characteristics
- Grand Cru: A blend that ages for three years in the cellar; characterised by citrus aromas, freshness and structure.
- Blanc de Noirs: Made exclusively from Pinot Noir, ages for three years and has a dry dosage of 8 grams of sugar per litre.
- Prestige: A high-quality cuvée that is often dominated by Pinot Noir (up to 80%) or Chardonnay, depending on the year.
- Other cuvées: The range also includes Carte Blanche, Rosé, Blanc de Blancs and a non-vintage Brut.
