Champagne Barrat-Masson is an organic champagne house in Villenauxe-la-Grande, founded in 2010 by oenologist Aurélie and winegrower Loïc Barrat. The estate combines a family history in winegrowing with a modern, nature-friendly approach.
- History: Loïc took over the family farm in Bethon in 2005 and stopped using weedkillers. The couple began converting to organic farming in 2009, with the first certified harvest in 2012. The name Barrat-Masson was officially launched in 2010 as their joint life project.
- Vineyards: The estate has 7 hectares of vineyards stretching from Villenauxe-la-Grande to Bethon. The soil consists mainly of clay and limestone. The grape varieties are 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir. The entire area is certified organic (AB).
- Approach: The winemakers use minimal intervention. The grapes are gently pressed with traditional Coquard presses, after which the juice is fractionated for precision. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, oak barrels and demi-muids. The champagnes receive no dosage (no added sugar) and are disgorged "à la volée" (freely) to preserve the natural taste.
- Champagnes: The range includes various cuvées such as La Jancélie, Fleur de Craie (100% Chardonnay), Grain d’Argile (50/50 blend), Les Margannes and Les Volies. The champagnes are often kept on the lees for a long time (up to 60 months) for complexity.
