Champagne Ariston Jean-Antoine is a family operation in Brouillet (Marne, France), located in the Ardre valley. The estate is run by four generations of the Ariston family, who are committed to authentic and sustainable winegrowing.
History and Family
The origins of the estate go back to a family tradition passed down by women. During the First World War most of the vineyard was destroyed. In the 1960s Geneviève Ariston, her husband François and their son Jean-Antoine took the initiative to replant the vineyards. Jean-Antoine gave his name to the brand before passing the torch to the current generation. Today the estate is run by Bruno and Patricia Ariston, together with their son Charles-Antoine (who joined in 2010) and his partner Angélique.
Vineyards and Terroir
The estate manages an area of approximately 7.5 hectares of vineyards. The grape varieties grown are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. The terroir is characteristic of the region, with a limestone and chalky subsoil, which contributes to the freshness and elegance of the champagnes.
Approach and Sustainability
The Ariston family follows principles of reasoned farming (agriculture raisonnée) and zero herbicide on most plots. Charles-Antoine, who studied in Beaune, has brought in modern and ecological practices, such as grazing in the vineyards. The estate has been certified as HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) and VDC (Viticulture Durable en Champagne) since May 2021. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, sometimes with wooden barrels for certain cuvées, and follows the traditional champagne method.
Champagnes and Products
The range includes both white and rosé champagnes, with an emphasis on simplicity and authenticity. Some notable cuvées are:
- Blanc de Blancs Vieilles Vignes: Made from 100% Chardonnay from old vines, known for its freshness and minerality.
- Rosé de Saignée Millésime: A rosé made from 100% black grapes using the saignée method.
- Carte Blanche: A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, known for its fruity and elegant profile.
- Carte Jaune: A classic blend of the three main champagne grapes.
Visitors can taste and buy the champagnes at the estate, located at 4 Rue Haute, 51170 Brouillet. Contact details are available via 03 26 97 47 02 or [email protected].
