Vinay lies in the Marne department, in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, a few kilometres south of Épernay. The village has no cru classification.
- Vineyards: meunier is the most widely planted grape here, complemented by chardonnay and pinot noir, on calcareous clay over chalk.
- Character: the champagnes are fruity, round and approachable; meunier is also used here for single-variety cuvées.
- Producers: the family business Lecomte Père et Fils has most of its vineyards in Vinay, is HVE certified and makes, among others, a white champagne exclusively from meunier and a rosé de saignée. Jean Diot is also based in the village, and the grower Pascal Lejeune has plots in Vinay.
The Coteaux Sud d'Épernay form a transitional area between the Marne valley and the Côte des Blancs, which explains the mix of meunier and chardonnay in these villages.
