Val-des-Marais lies on the southern edge of the Côte des Blancs, south of Vertus, where the hills give way to the marshes of Saint-Gond (Marne department). The commune was created from a merger of several villages, including Coligny and Morains, and has Premier Cru status.
- Vineyards: the vineyards form an extension of the Côte des Blancs and are planted predominantly with Chardonnay, on a chalk-rich subsoil.
- Character: fresh, fine champagnes in the style of the Côte des Blancs.
- Producers: the grapes are largely sold to houses and cooperatives, which use them for their blends.
