Vanault-le-Châtel is a small village in the Marne department (51), north of Vitry-le-François. It is counted as part of the Vitryat, the small wine area around Vitry, and has no cru status.
- Vineyards: the vineyards of the Vitryat lie on chalk slopes and are planted predominantly with chardonnay.
- Character: chardonnay from this area gives fresh, taut champagnes.
- Producers: Vanault-le-Châtel is home to Trépo-Lériguier, among others.
The Vitryat is one of the smallest and least-known parts of Champagne. Viticulture is concentrated on a few slopes in an otherwise rural landscape of fields and woods.
