Cuisles is a small wine village in the Marne department, in a side valley at right angles to the Vallée de la Marne, near Châtillon-sur-Marne and Dormans. The village has no cru status.
- Location: on the right bank of the Marne, in a landscape with exceptionally steep vineyards.
- Vineyards: meunier is the characteristic grape, complemented by pinot noir and chardonnay. The soil is unusual for Champagne, with clay and clay-limestone over a subsoil that differs from the familiar chalk.
- Wines: meunier gives fruity champagnes here with freshness and character; several growers in the village are making a determined effort to raise the standing of this long-underrated grape.
- Producer: Émilien Fresne is based in Cuisles.
