Cormicy lies in the Marne department, north-west of Reims, on the northern edge of the Massif de Saint-Thierry. The village has no cru classification.

The Massif de Saint-Thierry is the northernmost part of the Champagne appellation. Around Cormicy the vineyards lie on the slopes of the Côte de l'Île-de-France; a walking route leads from the village through the vineyards. In this area meunier predominates, complemented by pinot noir and chardonnay. The champagnes are generally fruity and fresh.

Cormicy was completely destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt in the 1920s and 1930s, largely preserving the medieval street plan. It bears the Cité de Caractère label. The national cemetery of La Maison Bleue is also a reminder of the war.

In the village, Boulard Bauquaire, among others, makes champagne.
