Champagne Veuve Maurice Lepitre, located at 28 Rue de Reims in Rilly-la-Montagne (51500), is a family business that has been run by four generations since 1905. Originally founded by Maurice Lepitre, the wine cellar has grown into a house driven by women: Hélène, Marguerite, Corine and current owner Adeline.
History and Terroir
The vineyards cover 7 hectares and lie exclusively on Premier Cru land at the foot of the Montagne de Reims. The terroir is characterised by chalk soils and a cold, damp climate that reinforces the complexity of the wines. The grape varieties are 40% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 30% Pinot Meunier.
Working Methods and Sustainability
The viticulture is rationalised and has been free of insecticides for 15 years, with certifications for HVE level 3 and Viticulture Durable en Champagne. The vinification takes place in inox cuves with manual riddling on pupitres and manual dégorgement à la volée. The champagnes age in the original chalk caves from 1905.
Cuvées and Contact
The range consists of Extra Brut cuvées that highlight the mono-terroir:
- Cuvée Alba: 100% Chardonnay from 74-year-old vineyards.
- Cuvée Lazuli: A blend of 60% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier.
- Brut Extra Réserve: A classic Brut.
