Champagne Valentin Leflaive is a collaboration between the Burgundian Olivier Leflaive (Maison Olivier Leflaive, Puligny-Montrachet) and Erick de Sousa of Champagne de Sousa in Avize, in the Côte des Blancs.
- History: Both men have a son called Valentin, which explains the name. Leflaive bought grapes from the 2014 harvest, which were vinified by de Sousa; the first cuvées came onto the market in 2018. In 2020 the house obtained négociant status and, in the autumn of that year, was able to vinify in its own cellar for the first time.
- Approach and style: The champagnes are extra brut and made from Côte des Blancs Chardonnay, partly aged in old barrels from Puligny-Montrachet and Le Montrachet. The de Sousa family acts as oenologists and advisers.
- Cuvées: The cuvée names are codes: the letters stand for the terroir, the numbers for the base year and the dosage. Examples include the Avize Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs (AV), the Blanc de Blancs CV and the Grand Cru Rosé MA.
