Champagne Stéphane Coquillette
Champagne house in Champagne.
Champagne Stéphane Coquillette is a family estate in Chouilly, a Grand Cru village in the Côte des Blancs, and a member of the Vignerons Indépendants.
- History: In 1928 Stéphane's grandmother was the first in Chouilly to bottle the family's own production, under the Pierre Coquillette label. His father Christian ran the Champagne Saint-Chamant label for many years. Stéphane set up his own business in the late 1970s.
- Vineyards and terroir: The vineyards are in Chouilly and neighbouring Cuis, plus a few vines in Aÿ and Mareuil. In Chouilly the vines grow in barely 30 cm of topsoil resting directly on the chalk. All production comes from the family's own plots.
- Approach and style: The estate has been HVE-certified since 2014. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel; depending on the cuvée, the wine is aged in used barrels from Meursault. Stéphane favours low dosage and bottles individual plots separately.
- Cuvées: Well-known cuvées include Louis (Brut Nature), Les Clés (a Pinot Noir-based blanc de noirs), the rosé Marie-Aimer, the Cuvée Diane Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru and a vintage wine.
