Champagne‌ Ruffin et Fils is a family business based in Étoges (Marne), founded in 1947 by Jean Ruffin. The house is known for its tradition, character and inimitable style, with three generations working together on the production of high-quality champagnes.

History and Family

The business began in the middle of the 20th century with Jean Ruffin. In 1965 he was joined by his three sons Maurice, Raymond and Dominique. Since 1995 grandson Alexandre Ruffin has also been active; he established the négociant status and specialised in sales and blends. The business works as a single unit in which the family members each have their role in the vinification and the commercial management.

Vineyards and Location

The estate has its own vineyard of approximately 11 to 14 hectares. The vineyards are located in Étoges, a strategic spot on the coteaux line that stretches from the Marais de Saint-Gond to the south of the Côte des Blancs and the Sézannais. This location offers a diverse terroir, notably on the slopes of the Petit Morin, which contributes to the freshness and liveliness of the champagnes.

Working Methods

Ruffin et Fils combines its own grape varieties with carefully selected purchases from other winegrowers, which became possible through the move to négociant status in the 1990s. The family attaches great importance to a personal approach to vinification. Alexandre Ruffin is responsible for sales and selection, while his uncle Dominique is the chef de cave and oversees the vinification and the ageing in the cellars. The emphasis is on preserving a unique house style and the expression of the terroir.

Champagnes and Collection

The house style is characterised by fresh and lively profiles. Some well-known cuvées are:

La Cuvée de Réserve: The house's basic collection.
La Cuvée Chardonnay d'Or: A white wine made from Chardonnay.
La Cuvée Volubile Brut: A brut champagne.
La Cuvée Sir Alex: A special cuvée.
La Cuvée Volubile Rosé: A rosé variant.
L'âme de Jean: A cuvée in honour of the founder.

Visitors can visit the house by appointment or on specific days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) for tastings and walks.
