Champagne du Rédempteur is a historic, storied champagne house in Venteuil (Marne), founded by Edmond Dubois, who played a key role in the Revolt of 1911 in the fight to protect the Champagne appellation and earned the nickname "Le Rédempteur" (The Redeemer). The family has been active as winegrowers since 1789 and is now led by Claudy Dubois and her sons Cédric and Vincent (the fifth generation), who combine tradition with innovation.
The estate, located at "Les Almanachs" at 30 route d'Arty, produces champagnes from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier on a vineyard that is certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale). The champagnes are produced in the traditional way in oak casks (foudres), including a uniquely carved cask, and the bottles are still riddled by hand on wooden tables, resulting in authentic and complex wines.
The portfolio includes several cuvées, including:
- Nouvel R: A natural champagne without added sulphites (Nature), available as a millésime (e.g. 2013) and non-millésime.
- Cuvée du Centenaire: A prestigious millésime (e.g. 2006) commemorating the revolt of 1911-2011.
- Rédempteur Tradition: A classic Brut Tradition.
- Les Almanachs: A rosé de saignée.
- Blanc de Blancs and Claude Dubois (Blanc de Noirs).
Visitors can tour the estate, with a complete tour of the vineyard, the cooperage, the press and the riddling tables, followed by a tasting. The estate also offers a gîte (Le Clos d'Y) for accommodation, and is open Monday to Saturday (10:00-12:00 and 14:00-17:00), with appointments at weekends.
