Champagne Nominé-Renard is a family business based in Villevenard (Marne), founded in 1960 by André Nominé and Germaine Renard, who merged their respective estates. The house is currently run by the third generation, Simon Nominé (chef de cave), together with his wife Cecilia, with the advice of his father Claude. The name comes from the father's name (Nominé) and the mother's name (Renard).
Vineyards and Terroir
The estate manages 21 hectares of vineyard land, spread over five villages in Champagne: Villevenard, Allemant, Broyes, Étoges and Charly-sur-Marne. The grape varieties are distributed as follows:
- 50% Chardonnay
- 28% Pinot Meunier
- 20% Pinot Noir
- 2% Pinot Blanc
The vineyards in the Côtes des Blancs lie in a small, relatively unknown river valley south of Epernay, which contributes to the unique character of the champagnes.
Approach and Sustainability
Nominé-Renard practises sustainable viticulture and has been certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) and VDC (Viticulture Durable en Champagne) since 2018. The grapes are harvested by hand and processed in a cellar dug up to 15 metres deep into the chalk rock. The winery uses two classic wooden presses and two modern Bucher presses. The champagnes age for at least 36 months in the bottle (sur lattes), and Simon Nominé also experiments with vinification in barrels and single-plot cuvées.
Champagnes and Production
The house produces approximately 120,000 bottles a year, more than half of which are exported to Asian and American markets. Well-known cuvées are:
- Brut Nominé-Renard: The house style, with aromas of white flowers, citrus and a clear minerality.
- Blanc de Blancs: Made from 100% Chardonnay.
- Blanc de Noirs: A blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Pinot Meunier.
- Spécial Club: A prestigious cuvée, such as the 2012 vintage, which receives high ratings from critics such as Richard Juhlin.
- Demi-Sec: Sweet champagne with notes of ripe fruit and pastry.
Visitors can visit the estate by appointment (max. 15 people), open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:30. Contact: [email protected] or +33 3 26 52 82 60.
