Champagne Moutardier
Champagne house in Champagne.
Champagne Moutardier (also known as Champagne Jean Moutardier) is a family house in Le Breuil, in the Surmelin valley near the Marne.
- History: The family has been rooted in the area since the 18th century. Camille Moutardier made his own Champagne in 1921. Later generations, including William and Simon, have carried the house forward.
- Vineyards and terroir: The estate farms around 18 hectares on limestone and clay soils, roughly 80% planted with Pinot Meunier and the rest with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Some grapes are also bought in. The house is HVE and VDC certified.
- Approach and style: Moutardier is known for Champagnes in which Pinot Meunier plays the leading role, including the cuvée Nature Pure Meunier without dosage. The house also makes a few Coteaux Champenois, including a rosé.
- Cuvées: Six cuvées were selected as "Jeunes talents du Champagne 2021", and the Guide Hachette des Vins has reviewed wines including the Carte d'Or.
