Champagne Michel Hoerter is a family-run business in Essômes-sur-Marne (Vallée de la Marne) run by four generations, with Jean-Philippe Hoerter as current leader. The history begins with founder Joseph, who sold harvests by the kilo, after which Maurice started selling bottles and Michel expanded the business.
The 9-hectare vineyard has a loam-clay-limestone soil and an average vine age of 40 years (oldest vineyard from 1936). The grape varieties are divided into 70% Pinot Meunier, 22% Pinot Noir and 8% Chardonnay. The approach is certified HVE and Viticulture Durable (VDC), with more than twenty years of experience in sustainable farming such as mechanical weed management and 100% cattle manure.
The champagnes are produced by a Récoltant-Manipulant and range from Brut Nature to Brut. Distinctive is the oak-barrel ageing for selected cuvées, such as the single-variety Intuition Futée (100% Meunier). Important lines are the Gamme Les Muses (including Les 3 Muses, Les 2 Muses Blanc de Noirs) and the Gamme Intuition (including Intuition Rosée and Intuition Blanche).
