Champagne Mathieu-Nicolas is a family-run business in Cuchery (Marne Valley), managed by the brothers Mathieu and Nicolas Moussé, who took over the business in 2017. The Moussé family counts twelve generations of winegrowers, going back to 1629, and owns approximately 5 hectares of vineyards spread over five villages: Cuchery, Cuisles, Jonquery, Fleury-la-Rivière and Damery.
History and Family The family's origins lie in Fossoy (Aisne), but they settled in the Marne Valley, eventually near Cuchery. Mathieu studied viticulture and Nicolas trade, after which they launched their own brand together with a philosophy that combines tradition with openness. They have been certified according to HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) and VDC (Viticulture Durable en Champagne) since 2021.
Vineyards and Terroir The vineyards lie on the right bank of the Marne. The duo has made a parti-pris (choice) to make the Meunier grape, accounting for more than 80% of production, prominent as an expression of their soil. The plots are grassed over to support biodiversity.
Winemaking and Champagnes The champagnes are made with minimal intervention: only a small amount of neutral liqueur and no filtration. A distinctive product is the single-plot 100% Meunier, and cuvées such as L'Apanage Blancs (including Chardonnay) are also available. The estate offers visits and sales on site by appointment.
