History: Mailly Grand Cru was founded in 1929 by a group of vignerons who, after a boycott by traditional houses, decided to produce and sell their own champagne. The original members dug by hand more than 1 kilometre of cellars (crayères) into the chalk soil for ageing the bottles, a heritage that is still in use today.
Vineyards and Terroir: The estate has 70 hectares of vineyards, entirely located in the Grand Cru village of Mailly-Champagne in the Montagne de Reims. The wines are made from 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, from a terroir with chalk soil known for its thermal and hydric regulation. The cooperative currently has 80 members and is certified according to HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) standards.
Winemaking: Mailly Grand Cru is distinguished by vinification by plot, which results in exceptional precision and finesse in the blends. The cellar master uses a wide selection of reserve wines (more than 10 years old) to increase the complexity of the champagnes. The house produces approximately 500,000 bottles a year and has a strong export focus (60%).
Champagnes: The entire range consists exclusively of Grand Cru champagnes. Well-known cuvées are:
- Brut Réserve: The base, fresh and elegant.
- Blanc de Pinot Noir: A white champagne made from red grapes, rich and expressive.
- L'Intemporelle: A millésime (vintage) that emphasises the unique characteristics of the year.
- Les Échansons: A premium cuvée that reflects the top quality of the terroir.
