LS Cheurlin is a family champagne house in Celles-sur-Ource (Côte des Bar) that focuses on biodynamic and organic viticulture. The history goes back to 1788, when Joseph Cheurlin first bought vines; his descendants Edmond and Raymond laid the foundation for the current brand, while Lucie and Sébastien Cheurlin (5th generation) have run the estate since 2006.
Vineyards and Wines The estate consists of 5 hectares of vineyards with chalky clay soil along the Ource, Arce and Seine. The grape varieties are Pinot Noir (67%), Chardonnay (31%) and Pinot Blanc (2%). The production comprises seven cuvées, including the popular Brut Coccinelle & Papillon and the Rosé Pluie d'été.
Winemaking Since 2011 the estate has been certified by ECOCERT and since 2014 100% of the harvest has been processed organically. Lucie and Sébastien work without chemical products, use biodynamic preparations and vinify plot by plot to preserve the individual terroir characteristics.
