Champagne Léguillette-Romelot is a family-run business based in Charly-sur-Marne (Aisne, France), a village in the Marne Valley known as the capital of Pinot Meunier.
History
The Léguillette and Romelot families have been active in Charly-sur-Marne since the 18th century. The official foundation of the Maison took place in 1968 through the marriage of André Léguillette and Marie-France Romelot. The first bottles were launched in 1973. In 2000 Laurent Léguillette took over the business and invested in a cellar of his own. Since 2018 the estate has been run by Christine Léguillette, who continues the artisanal heritage.
Vineyards
The estate has 8 hectares of vineyards on clay-limestone soils, resulting in intense and elegant champagnes.
- Grape varieties: The vineyard area consists largely of Pinot Meunier (60-80%), supplemented with Chardonnay (10%) and Pinot Noir.
- Special features: In the walled vineyard Clos du Mont-Dorin (0.8 ha), forgotten varieties are grown: Petit Meslier (3%), Arbane (4%) and Pinot Blanc (3%).
- Soil composition: The soil consists of Lutetian limestone, Bartonian limestone, sand and loam.
Winemaking
The business practises sustainable and raisonnée viticulture and produces AOC Champagne.
- Vinification: Use of thermostatic stainless steel tanks; white champagnes often undergo malolactic fermentation.
- Finishing: The bottles are mechanically riddled (gyropalette) and undergo dégorgement à la glace (freezing of the deposit at -20°C to -25°C) without fining.
- Ageing: The champagnes age for at least one year on the laths (up to three years for millésimes).
Champagnes
The champagnes are known as authentic, atypical and surprising, with a focus on character and terroir.
- Product range: The range includes brut, extra-brut, blanc de blancs, rosé, demi-sec and gris meunier.
- Formats: Available in standard bottles, demi-bouteilles, magnums and jéroboams.
- Activities: The estate offers visits and tastings by appointment, as well as workshops (e.g. champagne cocktails) and an online shop.
