Champagne Fresne-Ducret is a wine house in Ville-Dommange (Montagne de Reims), founded by the Fresne family, which has been connected to winegrowing in the village for more than 180 years. The name derives from the parents Prosper Fresne and Marthe Ducret; their sons Jean, André and Joseph launched the first bottled champagnes under this brand name in 1946. Since 2007 the estate has been run by the current owner Pierre Fresne, who continues the family tradition together with his wife Daniella.
The estate has 6 hectares of vineyards, divided into 25 plots that lie largely in Ville-Dommange, a Premier Cru area. Pierre Fresne takes a natural approach: he resumed hoeing the soil in 2013 and began converting to organic viticulture in 2018. The vineyards are characterised by diverse soil types, including chalk, sand and clay, which give the wines a unique expression of terroir.
The champagnes are characterised by variety and respect for the terroir. Well-known cuvées are:
- Les Nouveaux Explorateurs: a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.
- La Grande Hermine: a vintage champagne that ages for at least 8 years on the lees.
- Pierre & Prosper: a tribute to the founders, mainly made from Chardonnay.
- Spagyrie: a rosé with a low dosage of 5 g/l.
- Arquémie: a series of zero-dosage champagnes (Brut Nature) with long ageing.
Visitors can visit the wine house for a tour of the cellar and the barrel house, in which the entire process from grape to bottle is explained. Visits are possible by appointment and last on average 90 minutes.
